It’s always great to see Lulu and Russell Taylor for a coffee and a catch up, when they can spare the time away from their beautiful Linden House Bed & Breakfast business.
They first moved to West Wittering from Surrey exactly three years ago this August, and every day, says Lulu, they still appreciate how lucky they are to be living surrounded by countryside, yet within a pebble’s throw of West Wittering beach.
Within six months of their arrival here on the Sussex coast, they began converting two cottages into a home for themselves as well as three stunning holiday suites – the Garden Room and Room With a View for bed and breakfast guests, and a separate annexe called the West Wing which has its own mini kitchen for self-catering. Each come with their own patio area and breath-taking views across open fields and countryside.
The couple have almost three decades of hospitality experience between them, and Lulu also spent many years travelling while working for British Airways so they both have a strong feel for what they appreciate when they are away from home. And in creating Linden House, they have incorporated all their favourite touches.
A key element of the design has been to give guests privacy.
“We think we offer a different kind of B&B and each accommodation has its own separate entrance and own patio so guests come and go as they please,” says Lulu.
“Not everyone wants to strike up conversation with owners of their holiday stay, so we felt it was really important to give our guests space. But we are available if they need us.”
But it is the small touches that people particularly love, says Lulu, such as the box of tissues in each room, the Nespresso coffee machines with plenty of pods, and cosmetic magnifying mirrors in the bathrooms.
While the couple provide continental breakfast, they always signpost guests to our café for a full cooked English and more.
“We discovered Billy’s on the Beach very early on and now tell all our guests about it,” adds Lulu. “It’s a great walk across the fields through to East Wittering and then Bracklesham Bay – it takes about 30 minutes so you can work up an appetite. And we always ask our guests to let the Billy’s team know they are from Linden House.”
Thank you Lulu and Russell!
